BREAKING: Figment Fans Rejoice! Meet and Greet Arrives at Destination D23 Tonight

Get ready for some exciting news, fellow Figment fans! Disney has just announced that the beloved purple dragon, Figment, will be making his long-awaited meet and greet debut at EPCOT. But here's the real surprise - you don't have to wait until tomorrow! Figment will begin greeting guests TONIGHT, September 9, as part of the Destination D23 event.

Destination D23 Figment Meet and Greet

Figment will have the pleasure of meeting Destination D23 guests in World Showplace during "An Evening at EPCOT with D23." However, for those eagerly anticipating his return to EPCOT, don't worry. Figment will be ready to welcome all regular guests at Imagination! Pavilion starting on Saturday, September 10.

Disney initially hinted at a Figment meet and greet coming to EPCOT "in 2023" back in September 2022. The timeframe was later narrowed down to "this summer" in March 2023. While the exact location was kept under wraps, many speculated that Figment's meet and greet would find its home inside the Imagination! Pavilion, considering it's where the iconic Journey into Imagination with Figment attraction resides. The theory gained credibility when the Vanellope meet and greet inside the pavilion came to a halt in August, complete with curtains surrounding the former meet and greet area and no immediate replacement announced.

Walt Disney World has also given us a sneak peek of the Figment meet and greet location on their social media platforms. Figment will be meeting guests against a vibrant blue backdrop, featuring the Dream Mobile piloted by Dreamfinder. This nostalgic nod pays tribute to the original Journey into Imagination attraction that enchanted guests from 1983 to 1998. Figment will be sporting his signature yellow jacket with red striping, mirroring one of his animatronic versions from the beloved ride.

A Storied History of Imagination

Figment has a storied history at EPCOT, having made his debut alongside Dreamfinder in 1983 as part of the Journey into Imagination attraction. The ride showcased the wonders of imagination and creativity, captivating guests with its whimsical charm. Figment and Dreamfinder quickly became unofficial mascots of the park, beloved by fans young and old.

EPCOT Center, with its educational focus, initially avoided using traditional Disney characters for meet and greets, instead opting for original characters like Figment and Dreamfinder. Over the years, Figment's popularity has soared, making him a recognizable park icon. He's appeared on merchandise, inspired delectable desserts, and even ventured into the world of video games. In fact, there's even talk of a Seth Rogen-produced Figment film in development!

One of the most striking displays of Figment's popularity was the early 2022 frenzy surrounding EPCOT International Festival of the Arts popcorn buckets featuring the mischievous dragon. These collectibles consistently flew off the shelves, proving Figment's enduring appeal.

While Figment has made occasional appearances at EPCOT in the past, this upcoming meet and greet will offer guests their first chance to interact with the imaginative dragon in quite some time.
